Is private the same as unavailable in my courses?

Yes, courses are now private by default which allows you to work on your course site without students being able to access the course. Hiding the course hides it from your default course views (you can still access them from the Filter – Hidden from Me.) To make your course available to students, click the 3 dots on the right and choose Open Course.
